In den letzten Jahren gab es im Sommer immer wieder lange Hitzeperioden mit sehr geringen Niederschlägen. In den Medien wurde in dem Zuge ausgiebig diskutiert welche Folgen der Wassermangel für die Natur hat. Besonders für Schülerinnen und Schüler (SuS), die zuhause einen Garten haben, waren die Auswirkungen dieser Hitzeperioden deutlich zu spüren, da sie, oder ihre Eltern, die Pflanzen in dieser Zeit vermutlich täglich gießen mussten.

An dieser Stelle setzt dieses Projekt an. Die SuS erschaffen ein Objekt, das ihnen direkt den Alltag erleichtern kann. In diesem Zuge setzen sich die SuS automatisch mit den verschiedensten Themenbereichen auseinander. Neben den technischen und physikalischen Komponenten lernen die SuS welchen Nutzen informatische Systeme für den Alltag haben und wie sie mit relativ einfachen Mitteln für sich genutzt werden können.

Viele Schulen besitzen zudem einen Schulgarten, für den dieses Projekt realisiert werden könnte. Dabei bietet es sich an, auch das Thema Nachhaltigkeit mit einzubinden. Bei der Planung des Projektes wurde darauf geachtet, dass es auch ohne zusätzliche Geräte und ohne Trinkwasserversorgung verwendbar ist. Das Sammeln von Regenwasser zur Bewässerung von den Pflanzen bietet gegenüber der Versorgung mit Trinkwasser eine kostengünstige und nachhaltige Alternative.

Weiterhin bietet die Verknüpfung von informatischen Inhalten mit Gartenbau einen schönen Kontrast und eine gute Möglichkeit für fachübergreifenden Unterricht.
