Collaborative writing in Etherpads

The new Stud.IP tool Etherpad offers the possibility of collaboratively writing text documents with others, keeping track of changes in the document and save the contents in a downloadable PDF document. The tool has an integrated chat (Unterhaltung) for synchronous communication while working together in the document.

Matrix of RBL Tools

We are proud to present our Research-Based Learning (RBL) Tools in this extended format!

For that, we have prepared a list of group tools with their main characteristics, as well as another list with their correspondence to each of the phases of the RBL processes. Feel free to take a look, to give some of them a chance and to give us feedback below this same post to improve and increase the list.

WordPress Blogs

Since the summer semester 2017, WordPress Blog plugin is available in every course to be activated by their teachers, by using the tab “Mehr…” and checking the box for the “WordPress Connector” plugin.

Basic instructions for the use of the WordPress Stud.IP plugin (PDF)

There are three options of blogs creation:

  • A Course Blog. The teacher can choose if this blog is only to be read (and eventually add coments) by the students, or if they can create new content inside (“vernetzen”). That option can also be applied to the other types of blogs to allow peer work/revision.
  • Individual blogs, for students, teachers and/or tutors. In this case, only the author will have permissions to write.
  • Group blogs, for collaborative work in small groups. The teacher has to configure the groups in advance through the tab “Teilnehmende” of the course.

After the creation of the blogs, and according to the permissions of each scenario, the teacher, the students and/or the tutors can change their Blogs as public (opened eye) or private (closed eye). Other configuration of the blogs is not related to Stud.IP and it should be done through the Dashboard inside WordPress.

Private collaboration with Onlyoffice

OnlyOffice offers the possibility to collaborate with other people, by creating and simultaneosly editing text documents, presentations and spreadsheets within the Cloudstorage (the online storage service that the University of Oldenburg offers for all their students and teachers).

Collaborative webpages with WordPress

WordPress is a flexible and powerful Blog platform that enable learners to collaborate creating a webpage. This webpage could be made up of static content (pages) and chronologically-ordered and up-to-date information (posts/entries). Blog platforms have been also long acknowledged to be a good medium for e-Portfolios.
